More Available Jobs in Tulsa, OK as Chamber’s Future Program Advances

Even better, the program has greatly succeeded in attracting investors to the area. Some big-name examples that have been hooked are Verizon, which decided to place its financial services hub in Tulsa, and Macy’s, which is expected to bring in 1,500 full-time and part-time jobs by establishing a fulfillment center in the region by the end of the year. These are just the benefits of the new investors, as the plan also helps already settled businesses to grow, an effort that has borne fruit in the recent assistance of 77 local business expansions.

Needless to say, the additional jobs created by the chamber’s Future program are having an impressive effect on the local economy. Unemployment is down by 5.3% in the Tulsa area and the city is adding an average of 5,000 jobs a month. Much of this can be seen in the growth of infrastructure jobs in the area, but other fields like IT work and office staffing are seeing their own boom.

Tulsa Jobs Market Booming with Openings in the Infrastructure Field

Careers in infrastructure can range from truck drivers to civil engineers. These jobs help maintain the backbone of the country as they ensure that the nation’s roads, railways, and waterways are functioning and expanding properly.

Infrastructure jobs also happen to pay good wages while quite a few of them have a low barrier for entry in terms of educational requirements; a striking example of this is that 59 out of 95 infrastructure occupations are considered to pay above-average salaries, while those on the lower end still get paid better than other entry-level positions in other fields.

Putting Laid-off Workers on the Rebound with New Jobs in Tulsa, OK

A check of the job openings at your preferred placement provider may turn up some leads once you’ve turned in a copy of your resume. Consulting a recruitment specialist may also reveal if the skills you developed in the previous company are what your prospective employers need for their team. Chesapeake CEO Doug Lawler explained that the 800 layoffs were from several departments including accounting, legal, and operations; 160 of the departures worked at other offices around the country.

A company processing applications for jobs in Tulsa may have some companies in need of people with a bigger wealth of experience. According to Helman, the layoff was the last act of a process that earlier saw 1,200 people separated from the firm, including a number of senior-level and management employees.

Sending the Unemployment Rate Further South with Quality Tulsa Jobs

A study of the industry numbers for February may compel business operators to think about which industry garners demand for additional personnel. The OESC data noted a 2,400-strong increase in people joining the government while the finance sector welcomed 1,200 fresh employees. Another 800 people landed miscellaneous jobs while 100 new workers joined the education and health services industries.

On the other side of the coin, certain industries took moderate hits after gaining ground for most of 2013, a fact that could spur recruitment services to immediately scramble for fresh talent. Businesses in the leisure and hospitality industry were forced to shed 900 people after hiring an additional 7,800. Things were bad for the mining/logging industries as well as the information sector– there were 800 fewer information jobs while mining/logging’s gain of 3,500 people was offset by 1,900 separations.

Some of the Most Rewarding Tulsa Jobs are in Science and Technology

Oklahoma puts great value in education, and this is something that is likely to pay off for the state in the years to come. According to an article published by The Oklahoman, the number of job openings in the state that require postsecondary education is expected to increase by 62 percent in 2020. Additional details were given by Georgetown University, thanks to a study they conducted about job availability for 2010-2020:

"Occupations in the STEM disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — will grow by 19 percent, according to the data, with 12,000 openings for applicants who have a bachelor's degree or higher, and 10,000 openings for those with an associate degree or lower."

This data shouldn’t come as a surprise to Tulsa residents, however, because the city takes pride in its thriving aerospace, energy, and healthcare industries. Thus, jobseekers can expect to see a large number of openings for profitable Tulsa jobs centered on these fields.
